Olive Vista was honored to welcome Nury Martinez, member of LAUSD's Board of Education, to our 8th grade commencement exercises.  She described some of the challenges she experienced growing up, but also stressed the importance her family placed on education.  She challenged Olive Vista's graduates to remember to keep on trying and never give up.

 

Two eighth grade students Jasmin Castaneda and Adrianna Abreu delighted the audience with their beautiful singing.  Accompanied by Mr. Gurwell, Jasmin and Adrianna sang "I Believe I Can Fly."

 

Principal Schar also addressed the audience.  He recalled some of the significant events of the school year (Turkey Bowl, lunchtime activities, field trips, etc.) and told the graduates that they can fly, as the words of Jasmin and Adrianna's song choice described.

 

Olive Vista's three valedictorians Frank Chavez, Juan Miramontes, and Hector Arias also delivered speeches.
