LAUSD recognizes Ms. McMurrin as a Teacher of the Year!

LAUSD honored 22 educators from the district as being Teachers of the Year. Seventh grade English teacher Ms. McMurrin was selected as a 2010 Teacher of the Year.

“Everyday outstanding teachers use their professional skills and talent to make a difference in a student’s academic achievement and life,” said LAUSD Superintendent Ramon C. Cortines. “Our honorees inspire students to expand their horizons and to contribute to their communities. They bridge the gap between dreams that students have and the reality that students can achieve. Congratulations to all of them!”

These newly-anointed TOY teachers now qualify for the 2010-2011 L.A. County Teachers of the Year competition, which is part of the California and National Teachers of the Year programs, and pays tribute to LAUSD’s richly diverse teaching force.

Ms. McMurrin was recognized during a pre-game ceremony at the Dodger game on June 1st. She also got to meet California Superintendent of Public Instruction, Jack O'Connell; he threw out the first pitch of the game. LAUSD's Teachers of the Year will receive a certificate and an award during the LAUSD Board meeting on Tuesday, June 15th.

Ms. McMurrin teaches 7th grade English and Yearbook. She has been part of Olive Vista's teaching staff since 2001.
